TESPTohoku University Engineering Summer Program

Tohoku University Engineering Summer Program (TESP) is a 2-week summer program designed to inspire engineering students from our partner universities. The program provides a series of lectures and hands-on activities on advanced topics. All courses are offered entirely in English for students in engineering fields. In addition, the program includes various cultural activities that expose participants to Japanese culture and allow them to enrich their academic experience, such as “Kimono” dressing, tea ceremony, field trip, industry visit and so on. Students will also get a chance to enjoy “Tanabata”, a traditional festival of Sendai City. It is a program that gives participants an opportunity to spend the summer time while acquiring rich, academic/cultural experiences and an insight for their academic future and global citizenship.

Program Contents
Lectures, Hands-on Activity, Japanese Culture Program(Kimono dressing, Tea Ceremony, Japanese Hour), Field Trip in Tohoku Region, Lab Visits. Contents are subject to change.
Tohoku University will issue a Certificate of Completion to each participant who completes the program. TESP should be eligible for 4ECTS, but credits are not conferred at Tohoku University. Students who require credits for this program should inquire at their home universities.

  • TESP is open only to designated TESP partner universities/institutions.
  • The eligibility varies by courses. Please confirm the application guide for each course.

Hands-on Activity

The participants have an opportunity of laboratory hands-on to implement and examine the ideas that are taught in the lectures. Pick-up one laboratory from the suggested options. The activities are conducted by groups.

Hands-on Activity

Design and make a prototype of a smart wireless power transfer system which can generate the solar electric power and transfer the power wirelessly to the electric devices. Presentation session to report the results of the hands-on activities is scheduled on the final day of the program.
